Corona Update: March 23

Here’s an update on BJC programs for the 2020 Spring season.

BJC is 100% committed to leading our team during this period. You can count on BJC being creative to support the team.

Unfortunately, all Devo-level (age 4-13) programs that were scheduled to start after Spring Break will be postponed. We’ll start these programs as soon as public authorities announce it is safe to resume. This includes Bike Play, Young Devo, Devo MTB, and Shredders. The Bike Swap is also postponed. Our High School program started 3 weeks ago and is continuing to operate “virtually”.

BJC will do everything we can to make sure we deliver on services that you have already paid for. We intend to provide the same programs and the same number of coaching hours, but on a different timetable. This may include: lengthening practices, extending the schedule for spring and summer, offering additional weekly practices, and virtual coaching.

The BJC High School programs can’t meet for practice as a group, but we’re hosting a variety of coach-led activities that are seeing strong participation and success. We’ll be rolling out these “virtual” programs to the Devo age groups too. Not to replace everything we provide in team practices, but to keep you engaged and riding your bikes.

For our High School groups, “virtual” BJC has included….

  • Coach-provided Training Plans
  • Coach-led strength workouts and team meetings using Zoom video
  • Zwift indoor group rides
  • A thriving team chat with more than 60 participants
  • Photo contest and several riding challenges
  • Online technical skills work with coaching feedback

If you’ve been a member of the team before, you know BJC is much more than the team practices. We have a well-established track record of team support that goes far beyond group gatherings. Our coaches are dedicated to helping our athletes grow. Any athletes who need suggestions or advice, please do not hesitate to ask the coaches. We’re here for you and we’d love to help anyone who asks.

New! BJC Video Library: We’ve collected over 75 of our favorite instructional videos and cycling movies here. Go learn a new skill! For wheelie practice, we ask you to use flat pedals and only practice on soft grass. Don’t get hurt if you flip over!

Coming Soon: The BJC YouTube Channel with videos from your favorite BJC coaches.

Ride Your Bike! At this time, public authorities have said it is OK to ride our bikes. Here are some tips:

  • Do not ride if you feel unwell, or have a cough, congestion, or a fever
  • Avoid group rides
  • No borrowing or swapping your gear with friends
  • No close-proximity games, such as “bump and thump” or other group drills
  • Don’t take risks or attempt skills beyond your ability
  • Avoid carpooling or congregating in groups

It is important that we do our part to slow the spread of the coronavirus and prevent unnecessary infections. While we are sad to postpone our programs, we know that it is important for us all to do our part to keep our community healthy.
