Corona Update: April 29

April 29, 2020

Dear BJC Community,

I’m writing to provide an update on BJC happenings.

BJC staff are hard at work adapting to the pandemic. We’re developing plans to launch summer programs as soon as possible, and we’re doing all we can to support our kids and our community through this crisis.

Unfortunately we’re cancelling spring programs for the devo age groups. We’ve been hoping that we’d be able to squeeze in a few weeks of practices, but it’s unlikely we’ll be able to gather in groups before the season ends on May 21. (If this changes we’ll let you know.)

Devo families will receive a full credit that can be used for BJC programs in the next 12 months. We’ll announce the steps for using the credit soon, and we’ll include options for donating your fees to BJC. We will consider requests for alternate arrangements in exceptional circumstances, such as financial hardship.

The spring cancellation applies to:
Bike Play (age 4-5)
Young Devo (age 6-8)
MTB Devo (age 9-13)
Shredders (age 11-18)

Fortunately, our high school team is thriving even under the quarantine and no adjustments to program fees are planned for this group.

Meanwhile, I invite all MTB Devo (age 9-13) athletes to join Coach Lester’s virtual weekly activities. Our goal is to keep kids engaged and provide fun family activities. This is provided at no charge, and doesn’t affect your credit. Try some of the challenges on our YouTube channel!

Looking ahead, BJC will start summer programs as soon as regulations allow. Registration is on hold while we await health guidelines, but we’ll let you know the moment it opens.

Adjustments this summer may include:

-delaying start dates until restrictions are lifted
-reducing group sizes
-staggering schedules to avoid large groups
-using alternate riding locations
-enforcing health checks for coaches and athletes

I want to remind you that BJC has a scholarship program in place and if you are in a financial position that would prohibit your kids from riding with BJC, please get in touch.

We have heard overwhelmingly that our members want BJC to be here when the crisis lets up. I want to assure you that we are working hard to make sure these programs are available as soon as possible.

As always, Pete
