BJC Named Junior Club of the Year
USA Cycling has awarded its “Clubs of The Year” honors, and Boulder Junior Cycling was named Junior Club of the Year for 2018.
Two main things stood out in describing BJC’s activities. One, the employment of professional coaches and, two, an ethic of inclusion. BJC’s director Pete Webber said, “We’re lucky to have so much experience and passion in Boulder which shows up in our coaches and kids. By following best practices and standards for our coaches, we’re able to have highly effective practice sessions that translate into physical and personal growth for every athlete.”
The BJC cyclocross race, dubbed Schoolyard Cross, is another bright spot, thanks to a spirit of inclusion. Webber said, “We’re proud of Schoolyard Cross because there’s something for everyone. There are hundreds of kids and folks having fun. We provide free entry for juniors and first-time women racers, we pay the one-day license fee for unlicensed riders, there’s a free women’s clinic and barbecue, and a free “Get off The Couch Relay Race” for any any ability. It adds up to a combination of the values that BJC aspires to.”
